‘Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation’
This dialogue is going to be held on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day 2019. Noted journalists, communicators, experts, democracy and rights activists will speak at the event.
This is an open event, you are cordially invited.
The dialogue will broadly discuss issues around Constitutional and international human rights obligations along with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) 16, in particular, building linkages to freedom of opinion and expression for promoting peace and democracy and the role of media.
The event will also deal following sub-thematic areas, as drawn by UNESCO, this year;
1. How the digital era is affecting electoral communications – and how this impacts on existing policies and regulations for elections and for communications related to the Internet;
2. New attempts to undermine media’s role in democracy: Discrediting professional journalism, and disrupting Internet access;
3. The way of survival strategy for the journalism on the new rise of the global authoritarian regime of the challenging environment;
4. Media’s potential to contribute to a culture of sustainable peace and democracy.
