Speakers urged to ensure equality, women empowerment and freedom of expression in a discussion session on Gender, development and freedom of expression held its training centre. The discussion session was organized by VOICE while Ahmed Swapan, executive director of VOICE moderated the session.
Nur Quamrunnahar, a noted writer and senior professional of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) spoke as main speaker in the meeting. She discussed on the issues and suggested to ensure equality between men and women, urged for ensure access to decision making process and right to express equally.
Nur Quamrunnahar said that society is creating social and cultural differences between men and women while in this patriarchal society; women are oppressed being suppressed by male counterpart both in domestic and official affairs. Not only are women abused by men, they are equally abused by women also.
She said that women are no less responsible for this condition they suffer. She added that it’s the essential time to overcome this situation. Women have to focus on raising awareness to claim their rights and should come forward for their empowerment to work with equal benefits. She also said that empowerment of women is a necessity for the development of our society as a whole and it is one of the main procedural concerns when addressing human rights and development.
Ahmed Swapan Mahmud, told that empowering women is empowering the all society. Every woman should know their contribution in this society and should fight for women’s human rights.
Among others, Abtab khan Shawon, Gulshan Jhumur, Santi Pada Saha, Meher NigarTuli and Israt Jahan Trina took part and spoke in the meeting.
